Long hair requires trimming every 6-8 weeks depending on the length of the growth cycle to keep split ends from travelling up the hair shaft resulting in thin ends.

Long hair can still be varied in style with different features on the perimeter of the haircut or with layering, from a few layers to modern disconnected layers, having a fringe or a long sweepy  bang.
