As the owner, CEO and Creative Director of Underground Hair Artists, the impressive Fay is not just a phenomenal hairstylist and impeccable colorist, she is the epitome of a true, multi-faceted artist. An educator, a mentor, a humanitarian, an award winner and among many other things, a dreamer. Fay has not only taken a simple dream for herself and turned it into a successful reality, but she has inspired and guided stylists to do the same.
With over 30 years in the beauty industry , Fay is an expert in hair, a master stylist, an accomplished make up artist, a certified esthetician and massage therapist, but most importantly, an educator in not just her own salon, but in her community as well.
Originally from England, Fay always had an intense passion for hair, a drive that lead to her completing her training in the UK. Shortly there after she worked in London perfecting her skills, all while studying under the best the UK had to offer. While studying in London, Fay made a bold decision, a choice that most stylists at her young age would never consider, to start her own salon , which just so happened to be in her hometown of Bournemouth; a success to say the least. A testimony to her dedication, Fay won the highly honored, always coveted, Guild of Hairdressers Award in London; the stepping stone to opening a salon that would encompass all the elements of the beauty industry that she knew would be the perfect combination.
Following her entrepreneurial heart, Fay decided to relocate to the states and open the quintessential European salon. With the support of her husband, Tony Doe, the couple moved to Santa Barbara, CA in 1993 and did so with immense success. Founding Underground Hair artists was a dream come true, tapping into the market with European techniques and bringing into it a salon unlike any other; a hard earned achievement considering they arrived in California with only two suitcases and a mere $6,000. Serving as a gateway to the community, her current pride and joy has allowed her to give back in many ways. Whether it be educating those in need or donating her time, Fay continues to contribute to countless charitable causes locally.
Fay has also developed her own product line called Underground Culture which contributes $1 from each product sold to youth music, arts and culture projects.
Over the past 20+ years, Fay has trained with Vidal Sassoon, Toni and Guy, Aquage, Goldwell, L’Oreal, Wella, American Crew and many others. With her teaching credential, Fay has spent her time as a salon owner training apprentices and fellow hair stylists; many of whom have gone on to open their own salons and achieve success in other arenas of the beauty industry.
Underground H.A. are members of the Professional Beauty Association and uphold the highest standards professionalism, a quality that has made a real difference. In her spare time, Fay is a 2nd degree black belt in the martial arts of Hapkido and also enjoys painting. A well rounded business woman and artist, Fay continues to challenge not only herself, but those around her in an exciting environment that encourages individuality and happiness.
